Old, Downtown Spokane

Dear Reader,
It has only been one year of blogging and already this brain is running out of ideas on how to begin a post. Good grief! It shouldn't be so difficult as long as one's English teacher is not breathing down their neck. (Note to self: Remember that virtually everyone who reads your work plays as English teacher for the simple reason that you are homeschooled. :)
Notwithstanding, YHVH blessed us with a fine weekend. After an unexpected visit from a Kalispel friend over Shabbat (his name was Kermit, & was such an amiable, fun gentleman, see photo's below) us ladies said farewell to the men and packed out for Washington. When we finally arrived, we felt like green apples among plump oranges in the bigger city setting of Spokane. Civilization! Talk about "strangers in a new land." Take my word for it! We country-bumpkins looked out of style, out of the loop, but by no means out of sorts when the lovely Angela met us at that fancy hotel. What can I say? It was a blast! And even though it was X-mas day, we still found fun things to do around old-downtown Spokane....

And a few snapshots of us...

Taxi cabs at the mall! {Angela and I thought that since we are short people we would fit.. Not so much!}

Fun at the hotel...

oops... where is Betz?? We need more pictures of her!

Miss a Meal if You Have to but Don't Miss a Book! ~Jim Rohn

I figure it's high time to write a post about the good books that I have so far found to be worth missing
a meal for...
(PS: not all of these are novels)
"The Help" a novel by Kathryn Stockett
What I love about Miss Stockett's book, which I've not yet finished, is her brilliant dialogue, and character development. I wouldn't post this if I didn't think that it was an inspirational read, and 100% page turner. (well, so far, at least!)

"Day of War" a novel by cliff Graham
I have a friend who once told me that he stays away from books about "sipping tea." Cliff Graham's novel, which depicts the inglorious life of King David (before actually becoming king) indirectly explained to me the difference. Not for the timid of heart, but great to read aloud to little brothers, and so eye opening to what things really looked like for these famous characters from the Scripture books of Samuel and 1-2Kings.

"Streams of Civilization Vol.s 1 & 2" by Mary Stanton
I couldn't wish for a better history course! Not just for homeschooling, but for understanding different civilizations from the the Great Flood, to King Tutt, to the French Revolution, to 9/ll. Great for quick referencing!

"The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg"
a novel by Rodman Phillbrick
The amazing thing about books is that not all of them have to be designated to a certain age group. Homer P. Figg's adventures may have been written mostly for boys between the ages of 6 and 12, but this 17-year-old girl found as much delight in having read it aloud with the family, as any boy would. On a scale of 1-10, for funny, well written, historically accurate children's novels, this one gets an 11, from me. :)

"Preparing to be a Help Meet" by Debi Pearl
Hey! Why does this look familiar? Check out my post, where I have already given the in's and out's 'bout how much this book suits me, here

"Things I Wish I'd Known Before We Got Married
by Gary Chapman
Did you know "that being in love is not an adequate foundation for getting married?" (quote from book.)... I didn't...really...know that... very well. :) Gary Chapman, author of "The 5 Love Language's" has begun to take me on a journey towards truly understanding marriage beyond what mom's and dad's show me through examples, beyond what Hollywood eludes to as "happily ever after" and beyond what my friends tell me.

"Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon
So very much of my diet, growing up, has revolved around the healthy techniques written of by dear Miss Sally. My mother and close sister, Betz, have always used easy recipes from "Nourishing Traditions" such as kefir, chicken broth, ghee (butter), dutch babies etc. I recently was given this book by a close friend, and already feel as though I can cook any healthy meal for a large crowd with no problem. Bon appetite! (not one you'd need to miss a meal for! heehee)

"Hattie Big Sky" a novel by Kirby Larson
Back in 2008, my younger siblings and I spent the summer in a rather boring, country town in Idaho. Our main source of entertainment? The library! Of the many books I read that summer, "Hattie Big Sky" was the bright, pink, bold highlight, and still lies among my favorite books... Especially as I have visited the Big Sky state, for the third time, now.

Montana Trip Preview

Here' s the pudding proof!
Yes, we made it to Montana, and are enjoying all the snow; the grand kids (in my position its technically niece and nephew) unpasteurized, fresh goat milk; the ground-shaking waterfalls; and remote cabin. Yoseph, Ani and Betz were so excited when we surprised them by knocking on the cabin door around 3:30 pm on thurs. Our plans were to call Jason when we got to Libby, which they expected would be late that evening, and have him lead us to their mountain house. Despite the unmarked roads and our incorrect google directions, we defied the fear of drifting off course and relied on prayer and the 4-wheel drive of our Ford to get us to the Vick address. Phew!! Anyway, enough babbling... enjoy these pics...there are more soon to come!

Can you tell that I'm not too excited about the cold weather?

 Dont you love this?
"Momma, I slept in the barn with the cat, last night..."

This last week, Jason introduced John-Del and dad to Kootenai Falls... Betz says that Johnny doesn't even have that "I'm a tourist, cant you tell?' look.

Ani, dont stand so close to the side of the cliff! It makes your sabba and daddy freak out.

 ani and aunt Rahel

Notice Ani's change of expression when she sits with Johnny vs me. She totally likes him better!
The two of them are inseparable.

 Mountain Man
Is it MT man or MTN man??
