Rahel's Challah

"See, because יהוה
has given you the Sabbath, therefore, He is giving you bread
for two days on the sixth day. Let each one stay in his place,
do not let anyone go out on the seventh day."
~Shemoth (Exodus) 16:29

I should have to say that my second favorite day of the week is certainly, without a doubt, Sixth Day (Friday.) Any child whose mother makes challah for Shabbat must as well feel so. My favorite challah is always the braids that are fresh out of my Ima's oven. Since before I can remember, Ima loved to make her challah rich with plenty of eggs and butter. She also loved to add her exotic crimson Saffron, which our friend brought her from the Middle East.
These recipes come from my dear grandmother, who also loves to bake bread. If your family prefers a soft, rich flavor that tastes wonderful dipped in grape juice, with a hint of sweetness and made with whole grains, "Rahel's Butter Braid," would be my recommendation!
However, if you are having guests for Sabbath, and your husband has picked out an unconventional Merlot, I am also offering "Ima's Safron Challah." My family enjoys this with middle eastern dishes, or southwestern menu's.

Rahel's Butter Braid: $4.00

Ima's Safron Challah: $ 4.00
